Deciding on what car to buy can be traumatic. Sometimes absurdly so.

Plumbing supply stores always seem to have one employee who always acts like he’s judging the plumbers that come in. We call him Gus.
This campaign was done just because the client wanted something fun. The entire thing was done in house, with my partner and I directing.

WSU was long overshadowed by Michigan and Michigan State. And they were tired of it. This campaign created a whole new identity and attitude for the University. The first year after it ran, they had their largest freshman enrollment ever.

We wanted to skip the normal tropes for higher education. Slow drone footage of a beautiful canvas. Portraits of distinguished faculty. Students looking at camera. We focused on capturing the spirit and energy of the university – a place where people weren’t afraid to work harder to overcome an obstacle.

Magna is one of the biggest automotive suppliers in the world. To help them change their perception of being “just a bumper company,” we repositioned their exteriors group as “Ruthlessly Brave.” The Brave Buffet was an experiential activation featuring gourmet cuisine with insects as ingredients. The food was served to automotive designers around the North American Auto Show, and it showed that Magna was brave enough to help them make the most radical new designs come true.

Urban Science is a data analytics company that knows more about wholesaling, retailing and marketing autos than anyone else in the world. The campaign idea was that Urban helps the industry go from “Chaos to Clarity” so that they’re certain they’re making the right moves to improve sales.

Many companies claim to help automotive manufacturers, dealers and their media companies by selling them data. Urban Science is the only company that can properly analyze the data to find the really actionable parts of it.

OnStar is a brand that's been around forever. It has plenty of awareness and a loyal following in the safety and security area. But it was our job, as creatives, and creative directors, to improve brand opinion. With a limited media spend, we did this by adding more emotion to the campaign and then creating highly engaging mobile executions.

OnStar's media budget was 100% dedicated to digital – especially mobile. We were successfully able to move the creative into executions designed to take advantage of mobile platforms.
We also collaborated with Facebook for the first-ever GM/Facebook "Spark" Session. This brainstorm resulted in GM's first sequential series of posts. These ads worked in a series to target and re-target users to multiply impressions and reinforce the message.

People love their fancy coffee drinks, but don't think they can make them at home. This idea created a complete, high-end coffee shop in Brooklyn and gave people an empty cup and the chance to do it themselves.

The Shield was shot in 2009, but it was held back after a terrorist tried to light his underwear on fire to blow up a plane. It debuted during the Army/Navy game in 2014 and, even better, it was part of a major Bill Maher rant on Real Time. The print pieces are from the campaign that retained the business when it went up for mandatory review.

We partnered with Google for a first of its kind application of Google Maps powering the interactive ad. People could enter their address and pull up a picture of their house from Google Maps. Then they could drag the solar array on to their roof to see how it would look. The media buy for the banner is long over, but the video case study above gives a pretty nice overview of it worked.

We sold this spot about two weeks after we started at DDB. It was especially great as we got to present it at McDonald's Headquarters with Bob Scarpelli.
